Ryder and Barnwell mania eclipses the Boom Boom show as Triton’s register thrilling victory

On a day where the rain gods savoured an upper hand, it was a crackling run-fest that capped off proceedings in sumptuous fashion. With two games washed away, it was a thrilling contest between the Triton’s and the New York Warriors that saw the concourse staying glued to the edge of their seats. It was a sheer display of carnage from batters of both sides with Liam Plunkett being the only bowler to have shone on a day where the others were just cattle-fodder.

Batting first, the New York Warriors got off to a feisty start as Kamran Akmal and Richard Levi fired shots all around the ground. However, Levi couldn’t get going as Liam Plunkett produced a slow bouncer to get rid of the South African while following it up with another slower variation to remove Tillakaratne Dilshan for a paltry single.

However, the wicket of Dilshan felt like the unravelling of Pandora’s box for the Triton’s as Shahid Afridi walked out to the center and he was in no mood to sit back and defend. It was vintage Boom Boom Afridi as he tossed the bowlers out of the park effortlessly and he kept on doing that over and over again. The Warriors posted 84 from five overs for the loss of two as Afridi stayed unbeaten on 37 from just 12 balls, clobbering six fours and two sixes.

It wasn’t just one legend turning back time but another in the form of Jesse Ryder was all set to unleash rampage upon the Warriors. Opening the innings with Yusuf Pathan, he went spraying shots as if that was his hobby. He upped the ante right from ball one and garnered 38 runs from just 12 balls, clubbing three fours and four sixes.

Jerome Taylor’s attempt at mixing up his pace got the better of the Kiwi batter but the Triton’s were unrelenting in their approach. Christopher Barnwell led the remaining charge for the Tritons with an exquisite 10-ball-28 while Yusuf Pathan who waited for a couple of balls before delivering the payload, went ballistic, as he smashed an unbeaten 16 from six balls, blasting two humongous sixes in the process. The Triton’s secured a staggering nine-wicket victory that would do them a world of good in terms of the NRR before they take the yard again on Day four.
