Sharjah: Bengal Tigers and Pakhtoons occupied the top spot in the second edition of the T10 League being played at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium.

The Tigers, after their humiliating defeat to Maratha Arabians on Friday, looked to have pulled up their socks in time and on Friday produced a clinical performance with the ball and bat to outplay Punjabi Legends by six wickets and 24 balls to spare.

Earlier in the day, Pakthoons pulled off an eight-run win over Sindhis.

Electing to bat first on winning the toss, Punjabi Legends were found wanting against Mujeeb Ur Rahman who sent back Evin Lewis and Tom Moores for an early shower.

Luke Ronchi and Umar Akmal tried to revive the Legends but Ronchi’s run out for 23 put paid to their hopes of a big total. Umar Akmal followed suit after chipping in with 18. They were the only two batsmen to get into double figures against some tight bowling from Mujeeb (2-11) and Sunil Narine (2-11).

Chasing a modest 78 to win, Jason Roy got into the groove from the word go and reached his 43 from just 14 balls with three sixes and six fours. His countrymate from England Luke Wright also helped himself to a six and two fours during his knock of 23 as the Tigers surpassed the target in six overs.

Brief scores

Punjabi Legends 77 for 9 in 10 overs (Luke Ronchi 23; Mujeeb Ur Rahman 2-11, Sunil Narine 2-11) Bengal Tigers 80 for 4 in 6 overs (Jason Roy 43, Luke Wright 23)
