Tom Kohler-Cadmore is a destructive hitter, particularly down the ground, particularly in Twenty20 cricket. Those talents were enough for Yorkshire to tempt him to leave Worcestershire in 2017, a move which so infuriated his director of cricket, Steve Rhodes, that he was whistled out of the dressing room in mid-season with barely time for his father – the New Road dressing room attendant – to say goodbye.
The maiden first-class century finally came in the final game of the 2015 season, against Middlesex at New Road as he added 229 with Tom Fell. Two more first-class hundreds followed in 2016, including a career-best 169 against Gloucestershire, although he was overshadowed by an extraordinary tail-end hundred by Jack Shantry. Proof of his dangerous T20 talents came when he scored the fastest hundred in English cricket in 2016 when he reached 100 off 43 balls in the opening night NatWest T20 Blast win over Durham at New Road, going on to post 127 off 54 – then Worcestershire’s highest individual score in that format.
