Sharjah: Nicholas Pooran is turning out to be a player to watch out for in the coming years. The 23-year-old left-hander from West Indies blunted the Maratha Arabians’ attack to smithereens by slamming 62 from only 24 balls and hand Northern Warriors a massive eight-wicket win in a T10 League match at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Sunday night.
Fresh from his 77 off 25 balls against Punjabi Legends the other day, Pooran almost played an encore. With six sixes and four fours he did enough damage to the morale of the Marathas who were defending a modest 94.
By the time he departed, the Warriors were 73 in five overs making it a mere formality for his Caribbean mates-Lendl Simmons (16 not out) and Andre Russell (15) to finish off the match in 7.1 overs.
Due to a delayed start, as a result of light showers, the match was reduced to nine-overs-a-side.
Earlier, Najibullah Zadran’s 27 from just nine balls was the saving grace after openers Hazratullah Zazai (16), Alex Hales (13), Brendan Taylor (15) and Dwayne Bravo’s unbeaten 11 saw Maratha Arabians manage just 94 for 6, thanks to some tidy bowling from Hardus Viljoen (3-16) and Wahab Riaz (2-20).
Maratha Arabians had lost to Punjabi Legends before beating Bengal Tigers in their second match, while Northern Warriors too lost their first match to Bengal Tigers but thrashed Punjabi Legends in their next encounter.
