Salt made his first-team debut in August 2015 when he opened the batting in the Royal London One-Day Cup against Essex. Debuts in T20 and first-class formats followed a year later. Salt also plays for Brighton & Hove CC in the Sussex Premier League. Wales-born, he lived for a few years in Barbados and credits that with a switch of interest from football to cricket as well as a determination to play it in adventurous style. He won a scholarship to play cricket at Reed School in Surrey, from where he was recommended to Sussex by Keith Medlycott and joined their academy. He made a maiden first-class 50 against Durham at The Riverside in 2017.
