Maratha Arabians rope in Virender Sehwag as their batting coach for Season 2

Dubai: After picking some iconic players like Rashid Khan, Dwayne Bravo, James Faulkner & Kamran Akmal in the Mini Draft held recently in Dubai, Team Martha Arabians roped in Virender Sehwag as their Batting Coach. He will be assisted by Pakistani legend, Wasim Akram. Maratha Arabians is co-owned by Parvez Khan (Chairman of Pacific Ventures and Pacific Sports Club – MS Dhoni Cricket Academy, Dubai), Sohail Khan (Bollywood Actor, Director and Producer) and Ali Tumbi (Owner – Aqua Properties).

“We had Virendra Sehwag playing for Maratha Arabians in its first season and this year he comes in as a batting coach. We are very happy to have India’s star player as our batting coach this year,” Co-owner Parvez Khan told TimesNow after the appointment of the former Indian batsman in the role.

“Sehwag understands the T10 format very well since he was a very crucial part of our team last year. We believe, his guidance & coaching to our young players will give us a very strong batting order.” Said Ali Tumbi, co-owner of Maratha Arabians, said.

Sehwag was a part of the team in the previous season of the tournament and played two matches. This season, he decided to switch the role and perform the job of batting coach.

The former Indian opener is also associated with IPL franchise Kings XI Punjab in the capacity of mentor. He took over the job in 2016 after he decided not to play the T20 league.

The former Delhi player was also one of the strongest candidates who applied for the post of head coach of the Indian cricket team. In the end, it was Ravi Shastri who bagged the job for a period of two years.

Sehwag, who led India in four Tests and 12 ODIs, was recently appointed in the cricket committee of DDCA, along with Gautam Gambhir, Aakash Chopra and Rahul Sanghvi.
