The concept of the 10-over league garnered a lot of response during in its inaugural season last year which is set to expand this time around. As many as six teams fought for the ultimate glory out of which Kerala Kings led by Eoin Morgan managed to win the title. The franchise is aiming to defend the title this year and has now roped in the former New Zealand cricketer Daniel Vettori as the head coach for the upcoming season.
Vettori is one of the most sought-after coaches in the T20 circuit. He is currently at the helm for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and Brisbane Heat in the Big Bash League (BBL). One of the best left-arm spinners of the all-time understands the game very well and is good addition to the Kerala Kings set-up as they will be eager to win the tournament again this time around.
Two new teams added
In order to expand the league, two new teams have been added this year. Apart from Kerala Kings, Maratha Arabians, Pakhtoons, Bengal Tigers, Punjabi Legends and Team Sri Lanka had participated in the tournament which was a huge success. Prominent international players made their presence felt in the first season which was played in December 2017.
The stakeholders of the league are aiming to expand it now as it was reported earlier that they are in talks with the various boards to take it beyond the UAE.
“We are in the initial stage of discussions with them [ECB], and we will be meeting with them in mid-March. The intention is to take T10 global. Working with a powerful board like the English one will be another feather in our cap. The format will be an independent league,” the chairman of the T10 League, Shaji Ul Mulk, had said at an event.
