The Qalandars have a chance to make the business end of the tournament and have five points in their kitty

England’s Tom Banton gave further evidence of his precocious talent to inch the Qalandars close to the play-offs in the Aldar Properties Abu Dhabi T10 League on Thursday night.

Banton, who just turned 21 on November 11, but who has already built a solid reputation back home in England, blasted a bilistering 80 from just 28 deliveries with six sixes and nine boundaries to script Qalandars’s 32-run triumph over the Karnataka Tuskers.

The Qalandars have a chance to make the business end of the tournament and have five points in their kitty.

They take on the Delhi Bulls in their last Super League game on Friday. And Banton, who had scored an unbeaten 53 against the Northern Warriors, said: “I think with T10, it is kind of hit and miss. Today (Thursday) was a totally different story. So, I don’t think we are going to change how we play tomorrow (Friday). Just fingers crossed, we come out with the right result.”

Meanwhile, Tuskers captain Hashim Amla said it was disappointing because they could have had a few matches go in their favour. “It has been disappointing especially when we had a couple of matches close to winning,” said Amla.

Brief scores: Qalandars: 130 for 7 in 10 overs (Tom Banton 80, Laurie Evans 17, Sultan Ahmed 13, Sandeep Lamicchane 2-30, Ahmed Raza 2-33) beat Karnataka Tuskers: 98 for 9 in 10 overs (Ryan ten Doeschate 25, Johnson Charles 24, Sultan Ahmed 2-5, George Garton 2-21) by 32 runs.

Man of the Match: Tom Banton (Qalandars).
